Artist Statement
I have always found art to be extremely fascinating; however I would not consider myself to be artistic. My only former art experience besides 6th grade is art foundations. I really enjoyed art foundations and felt it was a good introduction to art because it provided me with a little practice in a wide range of areas. The disappointing part of this class was that it was only a semester long. When I first started this class I had minimal artistic skills or creative ideas. After completing a year of this class and when comparing my first project to my more recent ones I have shown great improvement. I have learned a lot about how to mix colors and at how to make different shades of colors with both paints and pastels. I have also learned a great deal about making cultural connections and thinking of ideas that have a meaning behind them. I still need to continue working on my patients and at not getting frustrated and giving up. My favorite media used to be pastels however I know longer have a favorite kind. I enjoyed working with linoleum, silk screening, photography, as well as ceramics. Next year I hope to continue to work with a wide range of media. This is so I can continue to produce a wide range of pieces. This year I focused on the theme of change. I think a leaf was a good representation of this theme since leaves change with the season and no leaf looks the same. All of my works related because when they are set next to each other it can show my personal growth. In the future I hope to do more using the Roy Lichtenstein dots because my Mulan project was my favorite one to work on this year. I also really liked learning about the Japanese Anime and hope to do a work with it at some point before the end of this class.
